After my last post about Composting, I want to share about how to make fruit waste become utensil cleaner, fertilizer, etc. Happy reading :))
The story of Garbage Enzymes…
Garbage enzyme is a multi-purpose solution made from the
process of breaking down organic wastes. This is a good way of turning kitchen
waste into useful materials instead of letting them end up in waste dump!
How to make garbage enzymes
Step 1: prepare materials (ratio 1:3:10)
For example if you’re using a 5 litres plastic or glass
container, you would need:
300g of brown sugar (ratio 1)
900g uncooked kitchen wastes eg. Fruit peels, vegetable
scraps (NO MEAT!) (ratio3)
3000ml water (ratio 10)
Step 2: Mix brown sugar, fruit/vegetable scraps and the
water in the plastic/ glass container. Shake well!
Step 3: Leave containers
in a shaded, cool, dry place. Open the cap to release gas once a day for the 1st
month. Recap the container to prevent files from getting in! For the 2nd
and 3rd months, release gas builds up whenever necessary
Your Garbage Enzymes will be ready for use after 3 months!
(Leftover scraps after finishing the solution can be
composted and used in planting your herbs and vegetables for food… completing
our Food Cycle)
How to use Garbage Enzyme? (Garbage enzyme : water dilution
ratio)
1.
As a general cleaning solution (1:500 to 1:1000)
2.
As an insecticide/pesticide (1:100 to 1:1000)
3.
For anti-odor/air freshener (1:200)
4.
As plant fertilizer (1:100 to 1:1000)
5.
To encourage plant flowering/fruiting (1:500)
